Brycen Barnes‘ walk with the bases loaded in the third inning tied the game at 1.

Rincon, which won out of the elimination bracket, then scored four runs in each of the next two innings to establish a 9-3 leading going into the sixth inning.

Rincon pitcher Calvin Williams and catcher Braxton Sapp, who earned their third straight District 8-10 title, each scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Sapp had two doubles in each inning, including one that produced two runs in the fifth inning that gave Rincon a 7-2 lead.

Gavin Allison also had an RBI single in the fifth that gave Rincon a 9-2 lead.

An RBI single by Empire’s Joe Ulrich cut the lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the fifth.

Barnes again walked with the bases loaded to add an insurance run in the top of the sixth.

Empire mounted a rally with three consecutive singles to start the bottom of the sixth by Andrew, Chase Carney and Gabe Rodriguez that loaded the bases.

Andrew scored on a fielder’s choice groundout and Nathan Montano drove in Carney in with a single to cut the lead to 10-5. The last run scored when Rodriguez came home on another fielder’s choice groundout.

Rincon reliever Dom Hainley struck out the last batter and his team proceeded to throw their gloves in the air and celebrate.

Sapp finished 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs, Markuz Ortiz went 2 for 2 with a walk, and Hunter Russell and Barnes each had two RBIs.

Andrew went 2 for 3 with three runs, a home run and RBI and Ulrich was 2 for 3 with an RBI for Empire.
