Gauchos, Gamblers take 1-0 leads in best-of-three Sun Belt College League semifinal series

The Old Tucson Gauchos defeated the Old Pueblo Kings 15-5 and the Speedway Gamblers topped the Northwest Nighthawks 11-4 on Wednesday night in the start of the best-of-three series in the Sun Belt College League semifinal round.

The Gauchos and Gamblers can clinch a spot in the championship series with wins Friday night.

The games are played at the Kino Sports Complex Annex Fields.

Highlights:

Gauchos

— Nogales High School graduate Raenan Padilla of Gateway Community College with four RBIs

Liam Padden of CDO and Mercy (N.Y.) College had three RBIs

— LHP Shea Prahl of Marana and Concordia (Neb.) got the win with five innings pitched, allowing three hits while striking out five.

Kings

Tyler Delk of Sabino and Pima College had two hits.

Brian Brimmer of Sahuarita (college undecided) had two hits, one of them a double, with two RBIs.

Carlos Molina of Pueblo and Dickinson State homered.

Speedway Gamblers 11, Northwest Nighthawks 4     

Gamblers

— Payton Capullo of Sabino and Victor Valley (Calif.) College had two hits, including a double and three RBIs.

— RHP Adrien Marquez of CDO and Eastern Arizona College was the winning pitcher, pitching four innings, striking out three and allowing five hits.

Nighthawks 

Nomar Basurto of Salpointe Catholic and Gateway Community College had a double and two RBIs.

Friday – 6:30 p.m.

Field 5 – Speedway Gamblers vs Northwest Nighthawks

Field 7 – Old Tucson Gauchos vs Old Pueblo Kings.

Winners of these two semifinal series will meet in the championship best-of-three series starting Tuesday at the Kino Sports Complex.
