Carlos Astiazaran wins IMG Academy Junior World Championship

Former Salpointe standout Carlos Astiazaran shot an 8-under-par 208 (68-69-71) to win the IMG Academy Junior World Championship held at Torrey Pines from July 11-13. The Pacific freshman beat Zihang Qiu of China (68-67-76: 211) by three strokes and former Brophy Prep standout Charlie Palmer (69-70-73 212) took third.

Astiazaran won the 2022 AIA Division II state championship held at the Omni Tucson National by two strokes with a 6-under 134 and he was the 2022 AllSportsTucson Golfer of the Year.

Andy was named an Honorary Flowing Wells Caballero in 2019, became a member of the Sunnyside Los Mezquites Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2021 and he was a member of the Amphi COVID-19 Blue Ribbon Committee.
