2023 football: 50 top Southern Arizona seniors — Tucson running back Prince Mugisha

Today marks only 21 days until the kickoff of the 2023 Southern Arizona high school football season with games scheduled Aug. 18. AllSportsTucson.com is listing 50 of the top seniors in Southern Arizona during this stretch. This is not a ranking. We acknowledge more than 50 quality seniors will play on high school fields locally this fall and we will report on them accordingly.

Prince Mugisha, 6-foot and 200 pounds, is physically imposing with athleticism and toughness. He is a threat out of the backfield as a runner and receiver. … Last season, he rushed for 863 yards on 129 carries with six touchdowns and he had 21 receptions for 201 yards and a touchdown. … Great news for Mugisha: New head coach Zachary Neveleff has a history of helping in the development of excellent running backs at Salpointe when he was the running backs coach there under Dennis Bene and Eric Rogers. Some of the running backs Neveleff worked with at Salpointe include Bijan Robinson, Mario Padilla, David Cordero, Anthony Wilhite, Dailan Goodman and Elias Bettis Roberts. … Honor student with a 3.85 GPA. … Coaches selected him to the All-5A Southern Second Team. … Attended camps this summer at Montana and Arizona. Met running backs coach Scottie Graham at Arizona’s camp. … Has scholarship offers from Montana State Northern Lights and Arizona Christian.

Neveleff on Mugisha: “Prince is an extremely talented player and an even better human! He is a tremendous leader for our team as well as our school. Price is a senior body officer in student council. His cumulative GPA is 3.85. He came to Tucson as a refugee from the Congo. I expect to see Prince rush for over 1,000 yards this season and be a vital key in our passing game as well. Prince will also play big minutes at outside linebacker.”
