Tucson Post 7 beat Fairfield 9-0 Friday at the American Legion West Regional taking place in Fairfield, California this week. The victory eliminated the host team from contention and Tucson will face Utah (2-1) Saturday at 4 p.m. for a shot at the championship series to be played on Sunday. Texas (3-0) beat Utah 7-5 to set up the game with Tucson on Saturday.
Tucson (2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning over Fairfield (1-2) after Gennaro Brito singled and was later doubled in by Jaden Leon. Post 7 added four more runs in the bottom of the second after Brito hit a sacrifice fly to score Emrick Thompson and Maddox Jones hit a bases-clearing triple later in the inning to make it 5-0.
Post 7 went up 9-0 in the bottom of the fifth with Leon coming up with a one-out double to get things started. Gabriel Morales would get hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded later in the inning to make it 6-0, Jorge Castro followed with a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-0 and Brito knocked in Morales and Javier Encinas for the 9-0 final.
Besides going 3 for 3 with three RBI, Brito also collected four strikeouts for the win.
