Canyon View’s quest for West Region Little League championship comes to an end

Canyon View’s successful summer with a District 5 and Arizona state championship came to an end Sunday with a 5-1 loss to Northern California in an elimination-bracket game in the West Region Little League tournament at San Bernardino, Calif.

Canyon View’s Miles Anderson went 2 for 2 with a run and a double against Northern California, which goes on to play Wednesday night in the elimination-bracket final against either Hawaii or Southern California. Those teams play in a winners’ bracket semifinal on Monday at 4 p.m.

The championship is Friday.

Canyon View’s quest to make the Little League World Series at Williamsport, Pa., is complete.

The last Tucson team to reach that far was International Little League in 1986.

Ethan Burnside went 1 for 2 with an RBI double against Northern California and Lucas Runyan went 1 for 2.

Easton Altherr had a quality start, allowing five hits and three earned runs in five innings with two strikeouts and no walks.

Canyon View trailed 2-1 going to the bottom of the fifth. That’s when Northern California rallied for three runs after three consecutive singles to start the inning.
