He has coached with the Miners for more than a decade, replacing Damon Lovato for the head coaching position in 2019. … San Manuel competed with 3A-6A schools and held its own in 7-on-7 competition over the summer, including the Passing and Big Man Tournament at Kino Sports Complex in June. … Senior QB Augie Romero replaces graduated Ralphie Valencia, who is his cousin and continues to mentor him at that position in practices and games. … San Manuel started its season at 1A juggernaut Heber Mogollon last week and lost 38-0. That’s an improvement from the 59-0 loss there last season. … The Miners travel again this Friday to Cicero Prep (1-0) in Scottsdale but then they have three straight home games. Cicero is coming off a 54-0 win at North Phoenix Prep last week.
Keep an eye out for: WR/DB Taylor Decker, only a sophomore, had an interception at Mogollon. He also recorded six tackles.
