Salpointe standout Lily Huether shot a 3-under-par 137 to win the Flowing Wells Girls Tournament of Champions held Friday and Saturday at the Silverbell Golf Course in Tucson. Huether shot 2-under on Friday to pace herself to victory past Sabino standout Zaida Wise (146).
Huether is currently ranked No. 9 in Arizona in Division II and the senior took second place at state last year and Wise came in 10th. Ironwood Ridge junior Lucy Newell is currently ranked No. 8 in D-II and Wise is 13th.
As a team, the Lancers are ranked No. 4 in D-II, Catalina Foothills is No. 7 and Canyon del Oro is clinging to the final playoff spot at No. 12. As of this week, Newell, Wise, Tyla Greenwood of Mica Mountain, Abigail Gryzynger of Sabino and Branaugh Stowell of Walden Grove are above the individual cut for the state playoffs.
Salpointe is slated to take part in the Aguila Invitational next Tuesday.
