Marana lost to Mountain View 42-35 in the “Battle of the Boot” but not to be overlooked is Dezmen Roebuck’s historical 19-reception effort for 188 yards.

Roebuck’s reception total is second-most in state history, trailing only the 21 catches Sahuaro’s John Mistler made in a 54-21 win over Sabino in 1975 and two others.

Paul Hardiman of Valley Christian tied Mistler’s record in a win against Valley Lutheran in 2002, tallying 21 receptions for 260 yards.

Kyle Watkins of Cactus Shadows also had 21 receptions (for 209 yards) in a victory over Higley.\

Roebuck, a junior, has a scholarship offer from Arizona.

Through only four games this season, Roebuck has 47 receptions for 664 yards with four touchdowns.

Marana quarterback Jason Wood completed 38 of 46 passes for 405 yards with three touchdowns in the loss to Mountain View.

The Mountain Lions’ rushing offense was too much for the Tigers.

Justin Holguin, one of three backup quarterbacks used because of injuries, rushed for 215 yards on eight carries with three touchdowns.
