Salpointe defensive end Keona Wilhite decommits from Arizona

Salpointe Catholic senior defensive end Keona Wilhite announced Monday night on Twitter that he has decommitted from Arizona.

Wilhite, a late bloomer who did not play varsity football in high school until last season, has decided to reopen his recruitment with the plan to see what Power 5 programs are interested in him, according to sources.

One source indicated it’s the “Bijan Robinson approach” to learn what high-level programs might turn him into an NFL defensive end.

The same sources indicated that Wilhite’s decision does not impact teammate Elijah Rushing’s verbal commitment to Arizona because Rushing’s brother Cruz is part of the Wildcat program.

Wilhite, 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, has 24 tackles with 4.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss in six games this season. He is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.

Elijah Rushing, 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, has a four-star ranking by Rivals, which rates him the best prospect in the state.

Elijah Rushing has six sacks and seven tackles for loss to go with his 23 tackles this season for the Lancers, who are 5-0.
