The Gregory School junior guard Rose Pisetsky hit five 3-pointers to lead the Hawks past San Miguel 53-8 Thursday night in the first half of a double-header where the boys defeated the Vipers 87-32. Four of her bombs came in the first four minutes of the game and the Hawks led 22-0 after the first quarter.
The team went 1-16 in ranking games last year after not having a program for a couple of years. The Gregory School (1-0) will host Hayden (0-0) Friday night. The Lobos beat the Hawks 42-21 last year.
Pisetsky scored 26 points in the win over San Miguel, Layla Lizon added 12 and Zena Smith and Lauren Horowitz scored six each. Jordyn Wong scored seven points to lead San Miguel (0-1). The Vipers will host San Tan Foothills (0-0) on Nov. 28. The Sabercats are taking part in the Lady Mountain Lions Invitational hosted by Red Mountain next week.
