Former Canyon del Oro dual-sport athlete Hope Hisey was selected in the Fourth Round of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Draft held on Friday in Anaheim by the Kansas City Current. Hisey was taken No. 46. The Current also selected Ellie Wheeler, a defender from Penn State in the Second Round (18), and another keeper in Halle Mackiewicz of Clemson in the Third Round (32).
Mackiewicz was the 2023 ACC Goalkeeper of the Year. Hisey, an All-Pac-12 selection, was the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year while setting a program record for the University of Arizona with 366 saves and the Pac-12 recognized her four times in her season with a Keeper of the Week nod.
Hisey played basketball first and then soccer for the Dorados while playing club for FC Tucson Youth, where she committed to play for the Wildcats. Hisey went on to play keeper for FC Tucson Women of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) where she was selected Desert Conference Goalie of the Year before moving over to train with the Kansas City Current II of the WPSL last year.
