Arizona secured a season-opening series win over the No. 23 Northeastern Huskies with a 9-3 victory in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field.
The weekend marks the thirdtime in three seasons under head coach Chip Hale, an Arizona legend, that the Wildcats have beaten a ranked opponent
Arizona posted a five-run second inning that would prove to be enough to win the game.
Easton Breyfogle opened the scoring with a double that scored Adonys Guzman after a Northeastern error.
Brendan Summerhill and Salpointe graduate Mason White both drove in multiple runs in the second as well.
The Wildcats scored three more in the fourth and a final run in the fifth.
Summerhill finished 3 for 4 with two runs, two doubles and three RBIs.
Right fielder Emilio Corona hit his second home run of the weekend in the fourth inning, a two-run blast that easily cleared the wall in left-center field.
Starting pitcher Anthony Susac worked four scoreless innings with four strikeouts but did not factor into the decision.
Right-hander Cam Walty (1-0) followed Susac and posted three innings of relief to earn his first win of the year.
Guzman was 2 for 3 with a run and double, and Tommy Splaine was 2 for 5 with a run, triple and RBI.
