The Pima Community College women’s basketball team secured its eighth straight 20-plus win season (excluding the 2020-21 season impacted by COVID-19) on Wednesday in a 100-50 win over Phoenix College at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 12 Aztecs (20-6, 15-4 in ACCAC) outscored the Bears (5-20, 4-15) in every quarter as they won for the eight straight time.
Pima held the Bears scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game and took a 21-4 lead after the first quarter. The Aztecs led 44-20 at halftime.
They started the third quarter on a 18-6 run and held a 76-32 lead heading into the fourth. Pima went on to outscore Phoenix College 32-12 in the third quarter.
The Aztecs had six players score in double figures.
Sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales) led the way with 16 points to go with nine rebounds (six offensive). She went 6 for 9 from the field.
Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer was 4 for 4 from the field, and she posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. She also added four assists.
Freshman Rylei Waugh went for 12 points, eight assists and three rebounds while sophomore Jordan Joe posted 12 points after going 5 for 8 from the field and 2 for 3 from 3-point range.
Freshman Amelie Buffill-Gutierrez (Sabino) closed out the game with 11 points and fellow freshman Annalise Holthaus (Ironwood Ridge) contributed with 10 points off the bench after she finished 5 for 5 from the field.
The Aztecs will play their fourth straight home game on Saturday when they go up against Glendale. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
