Sunnyside senior wrestler Audrey Jimenez, who has made history in this state for her state championships, announced Thursday that she will attend Lehigh University at Bethelem, Pa.
Jimenez is a four-time state champion with the Blue Devils who became the first female win a high school wrestling state title in Arizona while competing against boys this season.
She won the Division 1 title in the 106-pound weight class on Feb. 18.
She is also the first female wrestler to win four state championships in Arizona.
“I’m so happy to announce that I’ll be attending Lehigh University,” Jimenez wrote on her Instagram page. “The environment, resources, and opportunities at Lehigh won my heart. I hope to build some of the same characteristics as the wonderful people in this community.”
Jimenez is training for the 2024 Olympic Trials in April. She will face 2023 World Championships medalist Sarah Hildebrandt in a best-of-three series for the 50 kg spot at the Paris Olympic.
