Arizona wrapped up early season non-conference play with a 12-1 run-rule victory over No. 20 Indiana at the Frisco Classic on Sunday morning.
Arizona (5-6) scored 10 runs in the top of the fourth, marking their first inning with at least 10 runs since Feb. 16, 2019, against UMass Lowell.
The Wildcats finished the 2024 Frisco College Baseball Classic with a record of 1-2, having endured two competitive one-run losses to ranked opponents on Friday and Saturday before jumping on Indiana (7-4) in the finale.
Arizona lost 5-4 to No. 25 Dallas Baptist on Friday and 7-6 to No. 16 Alabama on Saturday.
The Wildcats begin their Pac-12 schedule Friday against USC at Irvine, Calif.
Wildcat starting pitcher Cam Walty pitched a gem for Arizona against Indiana, working six innings and allowing just one run on five hits while striking out three. Walty worked six of the seven innings and earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the year.
Arizona pounced on Indiana’s pitching with 10 runs in the fourth inning, quickly turning a 1-1 tie into an 11-1 lead. Catcher Adonys Guzman, center fielder Brendan Summerhill, shortstop Mason White (Salpointe graduate) and left fielder Easton Breyfogle all drove in multiple runs during the rally.
Eight of Arizona’s 10 runs in the fourth inning were scored with two outs. Designated hitter Maddox Mihalakis finished the onslaught with an RBI single.
Third baseman Richie Morales polished off the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh, giving Arizona an insurance run as they went for the run-rule victory.
Right-hander Trevor Long slammed the door shut in the bottom of the seventh, setting the Hoosiers down without a hit to secure the win.
White went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Breyfogle was 2 for 3 with a run, double and three RBIs, and Guzman finished 1 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs.
