Pima freshman Rylei Waugh selected ACCAC Division II Player of the Year

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team produced four representatives on the All-ACCAC Conference Team and three on the NJCAA All-Region Team, including ACCAC Division II Player of the Year Rylei Waugh of Los Angeles.

The No. 2 Aztecs (23-7) will host No. 3 Scottsdale on Thursday in the NJCAA Region I, Division II Semifinals. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

Waugh was also named ACCAC Division II Freshman of the Year, First Team All-ACCAC and First Team All-Region I, Division II.

She led the Aztecs in points per game (16.4), assists (5.7), steals (2.3) and minutes (31.0). Waugh also averaged 5.8 rebounds per game. She played and started in all 30 games during the regular season. She shot nearly 40 percent from the field and averaged 78.2 from the free throw line. She scored in double figures in 28 of the 30 games played. Waugh earned ACCAC Division II Player of the Week six times this season.

Freshman Gabby Lopez (Bisbee) was selected the ACCAC Division II Defensive Player of the Year. She also earned Second Team All-ACCAC and Second Team All-Region I, Division II.

Lopez played in all 30 games; making 24 starts as she averaged 7.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 block per game. She averaged 21.1 minutes per game.

Sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales) was selected First Team All-ACCAC and Second Team All-Region I, Division II.

Acosta played in 29 games; making 27 starts in the frontcourt. She averaged 13.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 24.9 minutes per game. She led the Aztecs by shooting 52.6 percent from the field. She posted nine double-doubles in points and rebounds, which included a stretch of five straight.

Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) was named Second Team All-ACCAC.

She played in 28 games; making 24 starts; averaged 8.2 points and led the Aztecs with 9.7 rebounds per game. Hoffmeyer shot 47.4 percent from the field and 23.8 minutes per game. She finished the regular season with seven double-doubles in points and rebounds and had 11 games where she hit double figures in rebounds.
