Mountain View Marana held on to defeat Catalina Foothills 5-3 on Thursday after beating the Falcons 18-0 last Friday. It was a remarkable turnaround the Falcons with Madison Hairgrove giving up only one earned run in the loss.

Mountain View is now 8-4 in ranking games and the Mountain Lions were ranked No. 14 coming in while Catalina Foothills (4-8) is ranked No. 20.

Clarissa Figueroa reached on an error to start the game for Mountain View and she scored later in the inning after advancing on a single from Alycia Gordin. Gordin would score on another error later in the inning to make it 2-0. The Falcons tied the game up in the second inning with Abigail Jurgens scoring on a wild pitch and then Ashlyn Swanson knocked in Hailey Hairgrove.

Mountain View came right back and scored three runs in the third on two RBI from Adelina Noriega and an RBI double from Danika Stoddard. Genon Thomas cut the lead down to 5-3 in the fourth on an RBI double but that’s as close as the game would get from there.

Arianna Figueroa picked up eight strikeouts for the win. Noriega went 3-4 with two RBI and Gordin went 2-4 with an RBI to help lead the Mountain Lions. Madison Hairgrove collected five strikeouts in the loss and Swanson went 2-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Things won’t get much easier for Catalina Foothills with the team hosting 4A power Salpointe (11-0) on Saturday. Mountain View will play at Pueblo (8-5) on Friday.
