Canyon del Oro ace Amelia Streuber nearly pitched a perfect game, not allowing a walk or hit while striking out 18 batters in the No. 3 Dorados’ 1-0 win Thursday night over No. 1 Mesa Eastmark in the 4A semifinals.
Streuber’s bid for a perfect game was stopped with two outs in the top of the seventh inning when Tayler McCombs hit a double on a 0-1 pitch.
Streuber struck out the next batter to close the game at Phoenix’s Papago Sports Complex.
CDO (33-2) will play No. 4 Salpointe (30-4) in the 4A state championship game Saturday at 7 p.m. at Arizona’s Hillenbrand Stadium. The Dorados are 3-0 against the Lancers this season.

Streuber, a Class of 2025 Oregon State commit, threw only 86 pitches and faced 22 batters in the game.
She is 19-0 with a 0.49 ERA and 165 strikeouts with 15 walks.
CDO scored its lone run in the fifth inning after Jacey Mazura walked and Kayla Hendrix reached on an error.
Mazura scored from third base on a fielder’s choice.

Taya Kelly and Sammy Hudgens had the lone hits for CDO against Eastmark ace Lexi Mendez, who had 12 strikeouts and four walks in her complete-game performance.
CDO and Salpointe will meet for the 4A title for the second time in three years.
The Lancers beat the Dorados in the 2022 championship as part of their current streak of five straight titles dating to 2018.
CDO won the state championship in 2017, the third under legendary coach Kelly Fowler.
