Desert View senior captain Edgar Leyva Miranda signed a letter of intent Friday with the Pima men’s soccer program, joining other local Class of 2024 standouts with the Aztecs.
Last week, Sunnyside’s Eythan Mancilla and Armando Alvizar signed with Pima, and a week before that, Christian Rubio of Tucson High inked with the Aztecs.
Dave Cosgrove’s traditionally strong program is loaded with local talent, many of whom he’s observed at the club level during their formative years.

Pima featured 16 local players last season when the Aztecs finished 13-3-1 overall.
Miranda, a midfielder, led the Jaguars to the postseason the last three seasons. He emerged as a captain for Jevon Moore.
“He reached the highest level of club soccer of what Southern Arizona has to offer,” Moore said of Miranda. “He played here with the local club soccer of FC Tucson. He played at their highest level and had the ability to travel to Germany because of it. … He’s an inspiration. He’s a mentor.
“I couldn’t have coached without him. He’s been my captain for three years and he’s super special to me.”
Miranda said the players and coaches he’ll have at Pima is “special.”
“I’m super excited; I’ve seen Pima grow the last four years into a special group,” Miranda said. “Every year, there’s something new with them and they just keep surprising everyone here in Tucson.
“I don’t think many people know how good of a team Pima has. I’m just excited to join them.”
