Taliyah Henderson and Team Canada completed their group play with a 3-0 record Wednesday following a 117-27 drubbing of the Dominican Republic at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup at the Coliseo Bicentenario in Bucaramanga, Colombia.
Henderson, a Class of 2025 standout forward at Salpointe, finished with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal in 21 minutes of playing time against the Dominican Republic.
Canada and the USA each finished 3-0 in their respective groups.
USA beat Mexico 115-20 in Group B action on Wednesday.
In the quarterfinal round Friday, Canada will play Mexico (0-3) at 10:40 a.m., Tucson time, while the USA will face the Dominican Republic (0-3) at 1:10 p.m.
The Canadians and Americans are at opposite ends of the bracket on course to play in the championship on Sunday (6:10 p.m.). The semifinal round is Saturday.
Henderson, who resides in Vail, is playing for Canada because she has dual citizenship, born in Vancouver, where her mom Danica is from.
She is rated No. 21 nationally among Class of 2025 high school prospects by ESPN. Arizona and many other Power 5 programs have offered her a scholarship.
She is also a state-champion track and field athlete in the 400- and 800-meter runs.
