Sunnyside High School wrestling great Roman Bravo-Young, who went on to become a two-time national champion at Penn State, added to his long list of accomplishments Sunday by earning the 57 kg championship in the Poland Open at Warsaw.
Bravo-Young, representing Mexico, will next compete in the Paris Olympics next month.
He defeated his two opponents in the Poland Open by technical fall.
He beat Mohamed Hanafy of Egypt 12-1 in the semifinals.
In the championship match, he defeated Iuna Diamantino of Guinea-Bissau by a score of 13-2.
Bravo-Young is a Class of 2018 graduate at Sunnyside who went 182-0 with four state titles with the Blue Devils.
A dual-citizen, he is wrestling for Mexico to honor the native country of his mother’s side of the family.
