Sophia Silverstein wins MLB Trailblazer and Little League West Region Home Run Championships

Sophia Silverstein, an eighth grader at Red Rock Elementary, hit 17 home runs in 90 seconds to capture the Home Run Derby Championship held at the Little League Softball West Region on Sunday, July 21.

“The whole trip was a blast,” Silverstein told AllSportsTucson. “I am so grateful to get the opportunity to represent my town. It’s really an honor. Whether it’s baseball or softball, when life gives you a pitch, swing at it!”

The Marana athlete also took part in the MLB Trailblazer Series this past April at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida.

Silverstein was one of about 100 girls in the country chosen for this event, meant to grow the sport of baseball and she also won that home run derby and was an MVP. She met Mo’ne Davis, the first girl to pitch and win a game at the Little League Baseball World Series, and Kelsie Whitmore, the first women to play in a Major League Baseball partner league in 2022.
