The Outside Agency Community Citizen Review Committee appointed by the Pima County Board of Supervisors and County Administrator Jan Lesher has forwarded a recommendation to the board a one-time award of $27,500 to the Arizona Bowl for acquiring a new sponsor, according to a public memorandum dated July 18.
The game is now called the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl presented by Gin & Juice.
The Board of Supervisors will vote on the recommendation in its regularly-scheduled meeting Aug. 13.
The Arizona Bowl announced on May 6 a multi-year sponsorship deal with Snoop Dogg, titling the event the “Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl Presented by Gin & Juice By Dre and Snoop.”
The game will air on the CW Network on Dec. 28 at 2:30 p.m. and it will pit teams from the Mountain West and Mid-American conferences against each other.
This groundbreaking agreement between the Arizona Bowl and Snoop Dogg marks the first alcohol partner as the presenting sponsor in an NCAA bowl game. Gin & Juice By Dre and Snoop is the first ready-to-drink product from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s new premium spirits company and is named for Snoop’s iconic 1994 song from his debut album, Doggystyle, produced by Dr. Dre.
“This is a new partnership which integrates iconic musicians, sports personalities and college football,” the public memorandum states. “Snoop is a well-known music icon and is currently the ‘face’ of the 2024 Summer Olympics on NBC and will be hosting the opening and closing ceremonies. He has starred and appeared in movies, been part of the Monday Night Football Intro and is a brand ambassador for several global brands.
“In addition, he has his own brands of cereal, syrup, pancake mix, dog food and clothing. Snoop also runs a football league in Los Angeles serving over 60,000 kids and launching many college and professional careers. Snoop has committed to participating in the game by providing color commentary, presenting the trophy and coin flip. The Arizona Bowl has contracts with six different hotels in Southern Arizona to accommodate players, coaches, spirit squads, bands, VIPs, visiting media and game officials. According to Visit Tucson, in 2023, the Bowl directly contracted over 2,200 rooms with an economic impact of over $3.7 million dollars.”
The memorandum also states that funds for the $27,500 will come from the Outside Agency Attractions & Tourism funds.
The Outside Agency Community Citizen Review Committee is comprised of six members, one appointee from each Supervisor and one appointee from the County Administrator’s office.
