A LOOK BACK — NO. 37 BOB SVOB
With it being the 37th day until kickoff between the Lobos and Wildcats, the best player to wear No. 37 for Arizona is halfback Bob Svob, who played with the Wildcats from 1938 to 1940 was a long-time fixture on campus after that. Svob, who passed away at 98 in 2017, was a coach and administrator after his playing days at Arizona. He spent 44 years at Arizona. He led the university’s intramural sports program for 16 years, served as an assistant football coach for two and was an assistant athletic director for seven. Svob was the school’s dean of men from 1966-72. He was then promoted to dean of students, a position he held until retiring in 1983. An Arizona Hall of Famer, Svob also assisted the development of high school sports as commissioner of the Arizona Scholastic Association from 1950-59. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy as a ferry driver on the Japanese island of Saipan.

THEY SAID IT
“We’re looking for a total team aspect on things. We know we’ve got some fantastic offensive linemen. … As the offensive line goes, we go. You can’t do anything without an offensive line. We know we have four cats up there.” — new Arizona offensive coordinator Dino Babers during spring practice.
