To get ready for the upcoming Arizona football season, All Sports Tucson offers a countdown, which will include history notes and a look ahead to the season — a good way to keep Arizona football on the mind in the summer months leading up to fall camp in early August and then kickoff against New Mexico on Aug. 31 in the start of the Brent Brennan era.

With it being the 36th day until kickoff between the Lobos and Wildcats, the best player to wear No. 36 for Arizona is running back Gilbert Harris, who played with the Wildcats from 2002 to 2005.  He broke out for a career-high 113 rushing yards against UCLA in 2005 when Arizona upset the No. 7 Bruins 52-14. He went on to play briefly for the Kansas City Chiefs. Harris, who was born in Manhattan, N.Y., and is now 40, and former Arizona soccer standout Kaity Harris are married and live in Gilbert with their two children. He is now a financial consultant for an investment services firm and Kaity is an elementary-school principal in the Higley School District.

NO. 36 IN 2024 — LB DOMINIC HANGER

Dominic Hanger

Hanger, 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, is in his second year in the program as a walk-on from Chandler High School. He appeared in 26 games over three seasons on varsity at Chandler. He made 156 total tackles (75 solo, 81 assists), averaging 6.0 tackles per game and recording 13.0 tackles for loss.

NOTE

Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan can leave the program after three years as the most prolific receiver in program history. Last season, he became the eighth player in program history to surpass 2,000-career receiving yards (2,104), putting him eighth all-time. His 18-career receiving touchdowns are seventh in program history. (Arizona Athletics photo)

THEY SAID IT

“I feel like we need to have a good group of six or seven guys. It falls on who is prepared and ready to do it. If we have six, we’ll play six and if we have four, we’ll play four. It’s a matter of putting the best group on the field at the right moment. In order to do that, the leaders in my room have to be demanding of the group underneath them and willing to allow them to have their opportunities. It’s great to have T-Mac and Montana in the room because they are absolutely willing to let that group have their fair share and their opportunities to prove to the coaching staff they are ready and available to play.” — Arizona’s new wide receivers coach Bobby Wade, who is also one of the greatest in program history to play the position.
