Sophia Silverstein, an eighth grader at Red Rock Elementary, won the 2024 Little League Home Run Derby last week by hitting 60 home runs out of 64 swings. She hit 25 in the championship round to defeat Mia Zuniga of Siera Vista who hit 23.
Silverstein hit 17 home runs in 90 seconds to capture the Home Run Derby Championship held at the Little League Softball West Region on Sunday, July 21. The Marana athlete also took part in the MLB Trailblazer Series this past April at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida. Silverstein was one of about 100 girls in the country chosen for this event, meant to grow the sport of baseball and she also won that home run derby and was an MVP.
