Salpointe graduate Lathan Ransom, a safety, was Ohio State’s leading tackler on Saturday, collecting nine total tackles and five solo, and he had a scoop and score of a fumble in the Buckeyes’ 52-6 victory over Akron at Columbus, Ohio.
The 27-yard return of the fumble for a touchodwn was the first of his five-year Ohio State career.
He also led the Buckeyes with two tackles for loss.

Ransom has worked his way back from two major injuries in the last two seasons.
He suffered a torn ligament in his foot in the Wisconsin game an injury that forced him to miss the Buckeyes’ final three regular-season games and the Cotton Bowl last year. Ransom also broke his leg in the Rose Bowl three years ago.
Ransom is motivated to finally be able to perform after being on the sidelines with his injuries.
“I have had such a change in perspective. No matter who we’re playing, no matter what it is, whether it’s practice, whether it’s a game, whether it’s a scrimmage – I’m just happy to be on the field,” he told reporters after Saturday’s game. “So you know, to make a play on the field, that’s just my emotion playing through. That’s my emotion I’ve been holding in.”
