Pima women improve to 5-0 with win over GateWay

The No. 15 Pima Community College women’s soccer team left no doubt in its match on Saturday at GateWay, winning 11-0 to achieve its fourth straight shutout victory.

The Aztecs (5-0) have outscored their opponents 28-1 in the first five games. They have also played four road games to begin the season.

Sophomores Lizzie Walker (Canyon del Oro) and Camila Razcon (Marana) each produced a hat trick.

Walker netted the first three goals of the game in the sixth, ninth and 12th minutes to put Pima up 3-0.

Razcon scored in the 31st minute to make it 4-0 and back-to-back goals in the 49th and 51th minutes to put the score at 7-0.

Sophomore Kassandra Vasquez scored two goals in the 57th and 74th minutes to make it 10-0. She also had an assist.

·Freshmen Samantha Mendez (Tucson) and Kristal Navarro (Tucson) each scored a goal and had two assists. Mendez put in her goal in the 57th minute and Navarro made it 5-0 with her goal in the 38th minute.

Sophomore Jessica Alvarez (Tucson) provided the assists in Walker’s first two goals of the game. Freshman Marissa Garate (Tucson) scored the final goal and had an assist.

The Aztecs had 25 shots on goal and shut out the Geckos for the game. Freshman Phoebe Knisley (Canyon del Oro) and sophomore Jasmin Delgado (Salpointe Catholic) each played a half and finished with no saves.

The Aztecs play a scrimmage at Eastern Arizona on Tuesday in Thatcher at 6:00 p.m.

They return to the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday to face off against Glendale. Game time is at 8:00 p.m.
