The Minot State Beavers finished the 2023 season with a 1-10 record, the same way the team finished in 2022, but a 25-yard field goal gave the Beavers a 17-14 win over Northern State on Saturday to start the 2024 campaign with a 3-0 record, the first 3-0 start since 2002 and the first time ever as an NCAA D-II program.

Three local standouts had a big part of the record-setting victory. Former Pusch Ridge standout Evan Lovett gained 123 yards rushing including a 44-yard scoring run. Former Salpointe standout Cody Raetzman had five tackles and he recovered a fumble, and his brother Connor Raetzman added six tackles with 1.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for a loss.

This was the first victory over Northern State since 1992. The Beavers improved to 3-0 on the year and 2-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Beavers will play at Minnesota State University – Mankato (3-0) on Saturday.

Lovett leads the team with 299 (5.6) yards rushing on the year with two touchdowns. Cody Raetzman leads the team with 14 tackles and Connor Raetzman is next with 12.
