Former Canyon del Oro and University of Arizona standout Ka’Deem Carey rushed for 79 yards on 15 carries to help lead the Toronto Argonauts over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 41-24 to take the championship of the CFL Grey Cup on Sunday. Carey also scored a touchdown with 2:14 to go to clinch the victory.
Carey was acquired as a free agent on Feb. 13, 2024 from the Calgary Stampeders (2018-2023). He was selected by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round (117) in the 2014 NFL Draft. He was an All-American in 2012 and 2013 for the University of Arizona after helping lead Canyon del Oro to the 2009 state championship as a junior.

Former Cienega and Utah standout Andre Jackson struck out eight batters for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars over seven scoreless innings to record a 7-0 Game 5 victory over the SoftBank Hawks to take a 3-2 Nippon Series lead after dropping Games 1 and 2.
“This time of year, you are running on fumes anyway, so you just go out and do your best,” Jackson told Mainichi Japan. “Everything was clicking for me. I was laser focused and executing good pitches.”
Jackson tied a Nippon Series record by striking out 5 consecutive batters. He also became the first BayStars non-Japanese pitcher to win a Nippon Series game.
The BayStars went on to beat the Hawks 11-2 on Nov. 3 to win their first Japan Series championship in 26 years.

Jackson was selected in the 32nd round (966) of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers. He went on to help Utah win the a Pac-12 title and he was selected in 12th round (370) of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He made his MLB debut on Aug. 16, 2021. He was traded to the Pirates in 2023 and he signed with the BayStars on Jan. 11, 2024.
