The 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A conferences have announced their new football region alignments for 2025 and 2026 while 2A has yet to be released.
The conferences have until Tuesday to post the alignments that will be in effect for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Some of the more notable changes in 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A:
- Salpointe has traditional powerhouses Basha and Perry among its region foes at the 6A level. Former Salpointe coach Eric Rogers is on the staff at Basha.
- Canyon del Oro, the 4A champion in 2023, goes from the 4A Kino to the 5A Sonoran that includes Buena, Casa Grande and Marana.
- Ironwood Ridge and Tucson are placed in the 5A Sonoran, one of the toughest in the state.
- Both Casa Grande teams — Casa Grande and Vista Grande — are in the 5A Sonoran
- The 5A Southern essentially swapped out Buena, Casa Grande and Marana for Maricopa, Flowing Wells and Mountain View matched with Cienega, Desert View, Nogales and Sunnyside.
- The 4A Kino is now known as the 4A Tucson and it has some of the old Kino teams — defending state champ Mica Mountain (with Jay Campos returning to the sideline as head coach), Walden Grove, Sahuaro and Catalina Foothills but Amphi and Douglas have joined the region while Pueblo went to the 4A Gila. The other Gila region teams are Cholla, Empire, Rincon/University, Rio Rico and (defending region champion) Sahuarita.
- The 3A South is no longer — Sabino, Pusch Ridge, Safford and Thatcher are now in what’s called the 3A East along with new region foes Coolidge, Florence and San Tan Foothills.
The deadline for schools to appeal the region placement is next Tuesday. The AIA Executive Board will rule on the appeals Feb. 18, when the final football regions will be announced.
