The Pima Community College freshman Jake Applegate broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles with his third-place finish in a time of 8.30 seconds in Saturday’s Gaucho Indoor Invitational at Glendale.

He broke Nicholas Patterson’s record of 8.37 set last year.

The Aztecs earned three more national qualifying marks. They have a total of 32 national qualifying marks/times between the men’s and women’s teams.

Sophomore Wyatt Preble (Salpointe Catholic) took first place in the 800-meter race with a time of 1 minute, 54.28 seconds as he earned a national qualifying time and secured the No. 3 spot in the Pima school records.

Freshman Tayvien Biancuzzo (Mica Mountain) finished second place in the same 800-meter race with a national qualifying time of 1:54.79 as he holds the No. 4 spot in school history.

Preble, Biancuzzo, along with fellow race competitors Hollace Neasham (Canyon del Oro) and Noah Brunet (Ironwood Ridge), all qualified for the 4×800 relay at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships. Their times compiled together in the race earn their spot. Neasham finished the race at 1:58.46 and Brunet crossed the finish line at 1:58.54.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Track on Friday and Saturday for the Pima Multi’s/Indoor Invitational.
