
Second-ranked Pima Community College improved to 29-0 overall and sophomore Cohenj Gonzales eclipsed 1,000 points in his career Saturday in the Aztecs’ 98-76 win at Mesa on Saturday night.
Gonzales finished with 13 points, giving him 1,005 in his two-year career.
He is the fifth player under coach Brian Peabody to reach the milestone. The list includes Abram Carrasco (1,310 points), Murphy Gershman (1,210), Isaiah Murphy (1,109) and Dillan Baker (1,099).
Gonzales also had eight assists and five rebounds as his team improved to 17-0 in the ACCAC.

Pima won all three games against Mesa (9-18, 6-11) this season by an average margin of 28.6 points.
The Aztecs took a 48-34 lead at halftime and outscored the Thunderbirds 50-42 in the second half.
Pima produced six players in double figures, which included all five starters.
Sophomore Max Majerle finished with a team-high 21 points as he went 8 for 10 from the field and 3 for 4 from 3-point range. He also had four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Sophomore Wes Ball (Marana) added 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting to go with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Sophomore Gabe Oldham added 15 points, eight rebounds and two assists while sophomore Kota Benson closed out the game with 11 points, three assists and two rebounds.
Freshman Mason Hunt contributed with 10 points off the bench.
The Aztecs went 19 for 22 (86.4 percent) from the free-throw line and were 9 for 21 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc.
Pima closes the regular season Saturday when it hosts Scottsdale at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
