
The Pima Community College baseball team earned two ACCAC wins on Tuesday with a road sweep of a doubleheader against Glendale.
Pima (18-4, 8-4 in ACCAC) was led by freshman Sean Barta at the plate with his 4-for-7 performance with four RBIs and a run.
Sophomore Andrew Grenert hit a home run and went 1 for 2 with an RBI, five runs and four walks against Glendale (8-14, 1-9).
Freshman Luis Pablo Navarro (Walden Grove) and sophomore Lucas Casey (Canyon del Oro) produced quality starts and got the wins on the mound.
Game 1: (23) Pima 2, Glendale 0
The Aztecs scored the first run of the game in the fifth inning and added insurance in the seventh as the pitching staff took care of the rest.
Navarro picked up the win after throwing six shutout innings, giving up five hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Sophomore Tsubasa Tomii picked up the save after he pitched the final inning and had two strikeouts.
Barta hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to bring in Grenert (a pinch runner) as Pima got on the scoreboard.
Sophomore Caden Richards hit a single with two outs to reach base before Grenert replaced him on the bathpaths,
Grenert hit a solo home run to left field with one out in the seventh inning. He finished the game 1 for 1 with an RBI and two runs. Barta went 2 for 4 with an RBI as Richards and freshman Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro) each went 2 for 2 with a walk.
Game 2: (23) Pima 14, Glendale 4 (6 innings)
The Aztecs got going with five runs in the first inning, five in the fourth inning and helped secure a run-rule victory with three runs in the sixth inning.
Barta put Pima on the board with a sacrifice fly. Two batters later, freshmen Zach Plasschaert (formerly of Arizona) and Matt MacDonald hit back-to-back two-run singles as the Aztecs took a 5-0 lead.
Sophomore Nolan Ganter and Barta hit RBI singles as part of the fourth inning while Plasschaert, MacDonald and freshman Ramon Martinez drew three straight bases loaded walks. Pima led 10-3 at that point.
Freshman Leon Cereceres hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to drive in MacDonald and Martinez as freshman Jackson Glueck capped off the scoring with his RBI single to plate Ganter.
Barta hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and finished the game 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run.
MacDonald was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Plasschaert finished 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Cereceres went 2 for 3 with two RBIs while Martinez was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs. Grenert scored three runs and had four walks while sophomore Collin Senior scored twice and had three walks.
The Aztecs finished the game with 13 walks.
Casey got the win as he pitched five innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk on 88 pitches.
The Aztecs will host a non-conference doubleheader against Scottsdale Post Grad on Saturday with the first game starting at noon.
