Arizona victorious in first games of Judi Garman Classic, faces rival UCLA today

No. 10 Arizona run-ruled Weber State and Cal State Fullerton on the first day Friday of the Judi Garman Classic, ahead of facing rival No. 4 UCLA at Fullerton, Calif., on Saturday.

Arizona (17-2) will play Notre Dame at 12:30 p.m. and followed with the game against UCLA at 3 p.m. Both games are not reported as televised.

Game 1 | #10 Arizona 13, Weber State 3 (5 inn.)

The Wildcats scored 13 runs on 15 hits and Paige Dimler led Arizona at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs.

Miranda Stoddard drove in a team-high three runs and was one of six Wildcats with two or more hits.

Arizona opened the game with four runs in the top of the first inning. Stoddard and Dimler both tripled to plate the first three runs for Arizona. Emma Kavanagh drove in the fourth run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Arizona added five more in the second inning to take a 9-0 lead. The first three runs of the inning came across on Weber State errors. Dimler singled to score Devyn Netz and Kavanagh hit another sac fly to drive in the fifth run of the inning.

In the third, Stoddard singled to drive in the 10th run for Arizona and pick up her third RBI of the game. The Wildcats plated two more in the fourth to extend their lead with a sacrifice fly from Salpointe graduate Logan Cole and an RBI single from Regan Shockey.

Arizona scored its 13th run in the fifth on an RBI fielder’s choice from Tayler Biehl.

Weber State scored three in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run double and an RBI single but couldn’t make a comeback.

Ryan Maddux picked up her second win in the circle, going 4 2/3 innings and striking out six.

Brooke Mannon entered in the fifth to face the final batter and picked up a strikeout to end the game.

Game 2 | #10 Arizona 12, Cal State Fullerton 1 (5 inn.)

Arizona scored 12 runs on 11 hits in the second game.

Altmeyer drove in three runs and went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Wildcats.

Arizona scored nine runs in the second inning.

Cole drove in the first pair of runs with a single and Altmeyer followed with a two-run double to left center to increase the lead to 4-0 . Altmeyer took advantage of a fielding error to score the fifth run of the inning.

An RBI single from Netz and an RBI groundout from Dimler drove in two more runs.

Jenna Sniffen added a two-run double.

Fullerton scored one run in the second on an RBI single to make it a 9-1 game.

The Wildcats added another run in the third inning on a single from Netz.

In the fourth, Arizona plated two more for a 12-1 lead on a pair of RBI singles from Altmeyer and Shockey.

Stoddard picked up her fourth win in the circle to improve to 4-0. She pitched all five innings and allowed just one run on four hits.
