Arizona won its first Big 12 baseball game, overcoming Cincinnati 8-3, scoring all of its runs in the sixth inning Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Garen Caulfield’s grand slam off reliever Max Bergmann (0-1) highlighted the rally for the Wildcats (13-4, 1-0 Big 12) against the Bearcats (11-7, 0-1).
Arizona put together its rally after an out was recorded ironically by Caulfield to start the inning.
First baseman Tommy Splaine hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1.
The game became tied following an infield single by Brendan Summerhill. Two runs scored on the play, one following an error.
Salpointe graduate Mason White also had an RBI with a walk with the bases loaded. He went 2 for 3.

Arizona’s bullpen was effective, with right-handers Casey Hintz and Garrett Hicks combining for 5 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing only two hits.
Hintz (4-0) earned the win allowing two hits with three strikeouts and Hicks picked up his first save of the season pitching three hitless innings with four strikeouts.
Starting pitcher Collin McKinney did not factor into the decision after allowing three runs (one earned) over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters.
Arizona has now won its first game in the Western Athletic Conference, the Pac-10/12 and the Big 12.
The Wildcats go for the series win Saturday at 6 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field. The game is on ESPN+.
Former Walden Grove right-hander Owen Kramkowski (2-1, 6.23 ERA) will start for Arizona.
Cincinnati’s starter has not been announced. The Bearcats have featured seven different starters this season.
