Tucson beat Eagle (ID) 3-2 in 10 innings Wednesday night to claim one of the top seeds heading into bracket play at the Chris Moon Memorial Tournament held at Cherry Field. Ironwood Ridge is the other top seed in the 10-team tournament.
Both teams remained scoreless after four innings of play until Jordan Lesley knocked in Elias Fuentes to put the Badgers up 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth with one out. Fuentes was running for Javier Encinas Chavez who started the inning off with an infield hit.
Then, with two outs, the Badgers loaded the bases and Tenochtli Nepan Ollin reached on a error to make it 2-0. Eagle started out the top of the sixth with three straight hits with Declan Ragan bringing in two runs to tie the game up 2-2.
Eagle had a runner at third base with one out in the top of the tenth but a strikeout and a pop fly ended the threat. Ollin reached in the bottom half of the inning on a hit-by-pitch and Alan Krimpe sacrificed him over to second base where Uziel Castillo doubled him in for the 3-2 victory.
Ollin went 2 for 4 to lead the Badgers and Juan Hernandez collected 10 strikeouts in six innings of work. Luis Rodriquez pitched the last four innings for the victory. For Eagle, Ragan went 2-3 with two RBI and Jack Swanstrom went 2-3. Stephen Egan got the start, Andrew Palfreyman and Sam Palfreyman also saw action on the mound.
