Arizona wins series at West Virginia, improves to 5-1 in Big 12

Arizona secured its first Big 12 road series win with an 11-4 victory Sunday over West Virginia, highlighted by a two-run home run by Salpointe graduate Mason White.

White delivered what turned out to be the difference in the score with the two-run shot in the top of the eighth, giving Arizona (18-5, 5-1 Big 12) a 5-4 lead.

Adonys Guzman recorded his first career multi-home run game. His first was a solo home run in the early innings and his second was a two-run blast in the ninth inning that expanded the Wildcats’ lead to 11-4 over West Virginia (19-3, 2-2).

Arizona’s bullpen was dominant, combining to allow just two runs on four hits over the final 6 2/3 innings of the rubber match.

Right-handers Tony Pluta and Casey Hintz (5-0) worked the final five innings and held the Mountaineers scoreless on just one hit.

White’s home run was the 33rd of his career, moving him into a tie for seventh in program history.
