The Salpointe girls beat Tanque Verde 9-0 in a cross-divisional match held at the Reffkin Tennis Center located in central Tucson. Tanque Verde (5-2) started the day ranked No. 7 in Division III and Salpointe (3-0) was ranked No. 12 in Division II.
Salpointe made it to the D-II quarterfinal round last year as a team and Tanque Verde made it to the D-III quarterfinals. For Salpointe, Emma Murphy made it to the quarterfinals for singles last year and Lacey Kaufman made it to the semifinals. Sasha Carrillo and Kalliyen Kay made it to the second round for doubles. For Tanque Verde, Brianna Mildebrandt made it to the D-III semifinals.
Tanque Verde hosts D-III No. 36 Willcox (1-2) on Friday and Salpointe travels to D-II No. 46 Sahuaro (2-2) on Thursday.
Tanque Verde is coached by former Catalina Foothills head coach Kristie Stevens who led the Falcons to 15 state championships from 2000 to 2019.
