
The 14th-ranked Pima Community College baseball team put on an offensive display on Saturday in its ACCAC conference doubleheader sweep against Glendale at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.
The Aztecs (33-9, 19-9 in ACCAC) scored 26 runs on 32 hits in both games, won by Pima 16-3 and 10-0 with each game lasting only five innings against the Gauchos (14-26, 5-21).
Freshman Jackson Glueck finished the day 6 for 7 with seven RBIs and three runs while sophomore Caden Richards closed out the day going 4 for 7 with four RBIs and five runs.
Sophomore Nolan Ganter went 4 for 7 with five RBIs and two runs and freshman Leon Cereceres was 4 for 7 with four RBIs and four runs. Sophomore Maclain Roberts and Nate Gray picked up the wins on the rubber.
Game 1: (14) Pima 16, Glendale 3 (5 innings)
The Gauchos took an early lead but the Aztecs scored eight runs in the second inning and four runs in each the third and fourth innings to pick up their first run-rule win of the day.
Glueck set the tone in the second inning with a lead-off home run to tie the game. Cereceres and Richards hit back-to-back two-run singles while sophomore Collin Senior, Ganter and freshman Sean Barta all had RBI hits in the inning to give Pima an 8-1 lead.
Cereceres drove in two more runs with his RBI single in the third inning, bringing around freshman Zach Plasschaert and freshman Ramon Martinez. Ganter and Glueck had two straight RBI singles as the Aztecs went up 12-1.
Cereceres, Richards, Ganter and Glueck, the first four batters in the lineup, went a combined 10 for 15 (.667) with 14 RBIs and eight runs.
Glueck produced a two-run single in the fourth inning as he closed out the game going 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a run. Ganter capped off the game with an RBI double in the fourth and was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs. Cereceres finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs and Richards went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs. Plasschaert was 2 for 2 with three runs and Martinez drew three walks and scored three runs.
Roberts picked up the win after he pitched four innings, giving up three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks on 73 pitches.
Game 2: (14) Pima 10, Glendale 0 (5 innings)
The Aztecs provided the offense once again as Gray threw five shutout innings. He gave up three hits with two strikeouts and one walk on 70 pitches.
The Aztecs provided early run support with five runs in the first inning. Ganter and Glueck hit back-to-back RBI singles, scoring Cereceres and Richards, respectively. Freshman Ernie Alvarez (Canyon del Oro) drove a two-run triple to center field, scoring Glueck and Senior. Alvarez capped off the inning with a run to make it 5-0 as he was driven in by freshman Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro).
Glueck had an RBI single in the second inning and an RBI triple in the fourth inning. Senior brought in Glueck with his RBI double in the fourth inning as the Aztecs went up 9-0.
Richards hit the walk-off RBI single in the fifth inning to plate Jones and secure the run-rule win.
Glueck finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs, while Alvarez went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run. Richards went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs, and Ganter finished 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Cereceres was 2 for 4 with two runs. Senior went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run.
The Aztecs will host a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday against Yavapai. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m.
