Baja Arizona Notes: Bryce Cotton joins Derrick Williams; CDO softball ranked nationally; Isla Collins and Kendren Bourguet on USA Flag Teams; Owen Ernle collects 19 Ks in win

Former Palo Verde standout Bryce Cotton has stepped away from the Perth Wildcats of the National Basketball League (NBL) since joining the club at the end of the 2016-17 season. Cotton was a five-time NBL MVP, three-time NBL champion and eight-time scoring champion in his nine years.

Cotton is currently a standout with the Mets de Guaynabo of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). He joins former Arizona Wildcat Derrick Williams on the roster. Cotton had stints with the Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns and the Memphis Grizzlies.

Canyon del Oro (15-0) softball is ranked No. 15 nationally by MaxPreps. Scottsdale Desert Mountain (13-1-1) is ranked No. 32. For Arizona, the Dorados are No. 1, Desert Mountain No. 2 and Empire (16-0) is No. 3.  Salpointe (12-3-1) is No. 6.

Senior pitcher Amelia Streuber (9-0) will be playing for Oregon State next year and she is on the PGF All-American watchlist along with Ironwood Ridge standout Mia Gutierrez, who committed to play for Army.

Tucson youth flag football and track standout Isla Collins made the 15U U.S. Flag National Team roster. Collins, a member of Tucson Turf, will be a 2029 Salpointe graduate. In addition, Kendren Bourguet made the 17U National Team. Now, both athletes will be competing for the 12-man rosters at the training camp scheduled for April 3-6 at the Minnesota Vikings Training Facility in Eagan, Minnesota.

St. Augustine junior Owen Ernle collected 19 strikeouts in a 7-2 victory over Palo Verde on March 28. The game went seven innings.
