Howdy Wildcat nation!
Coming off of a victorious series win against Oklahoma State, this weekend was nothing short of hard work and dedication to playing true Arizona Softball.
Oklahoma State was a Top 20 ranked match up for us Wildcats. This weekend meant more than just a ranked matchup, but a weekend seeking revenge from a super-regional match up from the 2024 season. All week leading up to this weekend was preparation for wanting more than just a series win, we wanted to show them Arizona softball!
But something that every young player can feel when facing a ranked opponent is that such an opponent is a no slouch team. A ranked opponent means that they are a well-rounded softball program in their own right. When it comes to facing a ranked opponent, the most favored feeling that young softball players may feel is the feeling that they are good. This is a thought that we have to take captive when it comes to playing ranked opponents. Half the battle is that which lies between your ears… your mind! Whatever you tell yourself, you not only manifest it, but let it come to be and give those thoughts power over you not just your mental game, but also your physical game. To all my young softball players out there, it is so very important to feed yourself thoughts of confidence, encouragement, and strength!
To this day, I at times fall short of this as your mental game is constantly being shaped, no matter how old you are playing this game. My message to all the softball players out there is that when facing any team, good or not, to not make them more than what they are. At the end of the day, they are softball players just like you looking to compete and be at their best each and every day! It is your job as a player to feed yourself thoughts of confidence as game respects game in the sport of softball. Overall, a team is just threads and what you make up for them in your mind. When you win the power of your mind, the sky is the limit for you within the game of softball and this is a lesson that I am humbled by time and time again, especially when facing great softball programs at the collegiate level!
