Arizona designated hitter Maddox Mihalakis produced his second game-winning RBI of the weekend against Oklahoma State, winning Sunday’s game 5-4 on a walk-off single at Hi Corbett Field.

Arizona (25-10, 10-5 Big 12) achieved the series win over Oklahoma State (16-17, 5-8) after beating Arizona State in two of three games last week at Phoenix.

The Wildcats are tied for third with Kansas State (23-12, 10-5) in a tight Big 12 race midway through the conference season. West Virginia (30-4, 10-3) is in first place and TCU (28-9, 11-4) is in second. Both of those teams have eight-game winning streaks.

Arizona beat the Mountaineers in two out of three games at Morgantown, W.Va., earlier this season. The Wildcats have yet to play Kansas State and TCU.

They are not scheduled to play Kansas State in the regular season. They host TCU from May 2-4.

Arizona will play Grand Canyon at Hi Corbett Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before playing at BYU (17-16, 5-10) on Thursday through Saturday.

In the win over Oklahoma State on Sunday, Arizona rallied from a three-run deficit to achieve the win.

Right fielder Andrew Cain (Ironwood Ridge graduate) delivered the game-tying hit, a single up the middle, in the bottom of the eighth, before Tommy Splaine put the Wildcats on top with a sac fly.

Oklahoma State tied the game in the top of the ninth inning on a solo home run, setting up Mihalakis’ heroics.

Center fielder Aaron Walton started the ninth-inning rally by reaching base on an error. He moved to second on a wild pitch. Shortstop Mason White (Salpointe) was intentionally walked before a double play moved Walton to third. Mihalakis followed with his game-winning hit deep to the gap in right-center.

Starting pitcher Smith Bailey did not factor into the decision after tossing five innings of three-run ball. The freshman right-hander allowed only six hits, five of which were singles, and struck out five.

Fellow right-hander Garrett Hicks (formerly of Pima College) finished the game for Arizona and allowed just one run on three hits over four innings of work. Hicks (4-0) struck out three.

Cain finished 3 for 3 with a run, double, triple, walk and two RBIs. Mihalakis was 2 for 5 with run and RBI. Easton Breyfogle finished 2 for 4 with a double and RBI.

Arizona has won 12 consecutive home-series finales. Under coach Chip Hale, the Wildcats boast a 24-4 record in home-series finales.
