New Arizona coach Becky Burke tweeted “BDB!” — Bear Down, Baby — early Tuesday morning, indicating good news in terms of a player acquisition.
In the afternoon, news came that Horizon League Player of the Year Mickayla Perdue of Cleveland State announced she is transferring to Arizona.
Perdue, a 5-foot-7 guard, has one more year of eligibility remaining after playing the last two years at Cleveland State after spending time at Toledo and Division II power Glenville State (W. Va.).
She is coming off a season in which she averaged 19.5 points and 3.3 assists per game for the Vikings (23-8).
In addition to Player of the Year honors, Perdue, who hails from Springfield, Ohio, also earned a spot on the Horizon League First Team for the second straight season.
She was named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year averaging 17.3 points, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game last season.
Perdue recorded her 1,000th career point at Cleveland State this season. She’s currently 19th on Cleveland State’s career scoring list with 1,347 points.
She joins Montaya Dew and Buffalo transfer Noelani Cornfield on Arizona’s 2025-26 roster. Cornfield posted on social media Friday that she is transferring to Arizona from Buffalo, where Burke coached the previous three seasons.
Paulina Paris, Mailien Rolf and Sahnya Jah followed Adia Barnes and her staff to SMU. Jada Williams (Iowa State), Skylar Jones (Louisville) and Breya Cunningham (Texas) have transferred elsewhere. Lauryn Swann remains in the transfer portal.
