
Devyn Netz pitched a complete-game two-hit shutout in Arizona’s 5-0 victory at Houston on Saturday.
With the victory, Arizona (42-10, 16-7 Big 12) secured its sixth Big 12 series victory of the season and is assured the No. 2 seed of the Big 12 tournament that starts Wednesday at Oklahoma City.
The Wildcats conclude their regular season Sunday at 10 a.m., Tucson time, going for the sweep over Houston (22-23, 4-17).
Netz improved to 20-5 on the season after allowing just two hits and striking out eight and walking three. She has 50 victories in the last three seasons she has pitched (2022, 2023 and 2025).
Arizona scored five runs on 10 hits in Saturday’s victory. Jenna Sniffen and Sydney Stewart each went 3-for-3 at the plate. Sniffen led the offense with a home run and three RBIs.
After four scoreless innings by both teams, Arizona scored in the top of the fifth.
Sniffen drove in Stewart from third base for the run.
Stewart led off the inning with a single and moved to second when Miranda Stoddard walked. She then advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Tayler Biehl. Sniffen followed with a sacrifice fly to center field.
In the top of the seventh, the Wildcats plated four runs to take a 5-1 lead over the Cougars.
The first run came across when Stewart, who singled with one out, took advantage of a passed ball and a throwing error to come home.
Biehl hit a single to left field to bring home the second run of the inning. Sniffen then blasted a two-run home run, her seventh of the season.
Rylee Michalak (6-5) took the loss, allowing four hits and five runs in 2 1/3 innings. She walked five and struck out two.
