
Arizona’s series win at Houston, winning two of three games from Thursday to Saturday, matched with Arizona State getting swept at Oklahoma State vaulted the Wildcats to the No. 4 spot in the Big 12 Tournament ahead of the Sun Devils.
With the No. 4 finish in the regular-season standings, the Wildcats (36-18, 18-12) earned a bye to Thursday’s quarterfinals at Globe Life Field at Arlington, Texas. They are No. 4 because of their tie-breaker with No. 5 Arizona State (35-21, 18-12), winning the series 2-1 during the regular season at Phoenix.
The Sun Devils will play No. 12 BYU (27-26, 10-20) in the first game of the tournament Wednesday at 7 a.m. Tucson time. Yes, 7 a.m. The game starts at 9 a.m., Central time.
Arizona will play the winner of that game Thursday at 7 a.m., Tucson time.
West Virginia (40-13, 19-9) is the top-seeded team in the 12-team field after clinching its first outright Big 12 regular season title in program history. The Mountaineers earned a bye and will face the winner of No. 8 Cincinnati (31-23, 16-14) and No. 9 Texas Tech (20-32, 13-17) on Thursday at 10:30 a.m..
Kansas (42-14, 20-10) earned the second seed, its highest Big 12 seeding in program history, surpassing its previous high of No. 3 in 2014. The Jayhawks will open against the winner of No. 7 Oklahoma State (27-22, 15-12) and No. 10 Baylor (33-21, 13-17) at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
TCU (37-17, 19-11) took the No. 3 seed, its highest spot since being ranked No. 1 in the 2022 tournament. The Horned Frogs will begin Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against either No. 6 Kansas State (31-23, 17-13) or No. 11 Houston (29-24, 12-17).
The 2025 championship, which features an increase to 12 teams after the conference’s expansion, will be played in a single-elimination format for the first time. All 12 teams participating in the event own a top 90 RPI, with eight in the top 50.
