Former Arizona infielder **Kevin Newman** belted his first home run as an American League player, his first season with the Los Angeles Angels, in the Angels’ 8-2 win Saturday night against the visiting Washington Nationals. He had 26 home runs in seven seasons in the National League, including three last year with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Newman, 31, was batting .188 entering the game. He is getting additional playing time with starting shortstop **Zach Neto** nursing a shoulder injury. “More importantly than whatever I’ve been through, I think that just to come through in a situation that, to help give us some extra runs in a tight game, is what’s most important,” Newman told reporters after the game. “I think that just resulting in a win is the biggest takeaway.” (MLB video capture)
