Local track standout Michelle Rushing won the national USATF Junior Olympics 13-14 200 meter hurdles championship Friday morning at the USATF meet taking place in Savannah, Georgia this week. Competing for Arizona Titans, Rushing ran a personal record of 27.70 to win the event over Harmony Moore of Albany, Georgia (27.90) and Harper Fish of Central City, Nebraska (28.10). Rushing is now the top-ranked in the nation at this age level.

Reached after her race, Rushing said: “I just wanna say thank you to God for giving me the gift to run and compete, my parents for always being there for me, and the Arizona Titans and all my coaches for pushing me way past my comfort zone! This championship is coming home to Tucson!”

Rushing came into the final ranked fifth after prelims on Wednesday with a time of 28.71. Rushing won the 100 hurdles at the state championships in June, along with a gold from the 4×100 Relays, and she followed that up with Region 10 championships in the 100 hurdles and the 200 hurdles in early July.

Rushing has prelims for the 100 hurdles on Saturday and finals on Sunday.
