NOTES

The day the Kansas City Royals announced that they had signed first baseman/third baseman Bobby Dalbec to a minor-league contract, he belted a 435-foot two-run home run to help Triple-A Omaha (Neb.) to a 10-4 win over Indianapolis (Pittsburgh Pirates).

It was the 17th home run at the Triple-A level this season for the former Arizona standout. He now has 201 career homers — 154 in the minors and 47 at the big-league level (all with the Boston Red Sox from 2020 to 2024).

This is his third minor-league deal of the year. The previous two came with the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers. The While Sox called him up for about two weeks in late April/early May. He struck out in six of his 21 plate appearances before getting designated for assignment. He cleared waivers and elected free agency before signing with the Brewers.

His numbers in the minors have been productive, with a .276/.356/.531. He has 17 home runs in 316 plate appearances but also a 33-percent strikeout rate.

Defensively, Dalbec has mostly been playing the corner spots this year. The Royals may be interested in him as a depth outfielder. They already have Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino at the infield corners. They addressed offensive concerns in the outfield by acquiring Randal Grichuk and Mike Yastrzemski before the trading deadline.
